I’m not lazy, I’m energy efficient

Growing up I was semi-active. I joined the army and was active enough to make it through basic training and pass my physical fitness test for the three years I was in. I have never been more than slightly overweight. I have however, been very, very unhealthy. I lived off of fast food and junk food. I would work out so that I could eat junk and not gain as much weight. I used humor to make myself feel ok about my unhealthy habbits. I would say, “I’m not lazy, I’m energy efficient.” or “I am in shape, round is a shape.”
It wasn’t until my husband left on his second deployment that I found my hidden love for running. He left when our daughter was 10 days old. I had moved in with my family for support while he was deployed. My Mom and I joined a weight loss contest. I went from 155 lbs to 119lbs over the course of 16 weeks. During the contest my sister, who is an avid runner, convinced me to sign up for a half marathon. With the help of her customized training program I went from not being able to run a full block to completing my first half marathon.
I have since used running to get through another deployment. I have recently become a stay at home mom and running is what keeps me sane! My newest challenges are stepping out of my comfort zone to try new fitness activities and maintaining a healthy diet despite my love for fast food. I’m learning that not only do I love running but I love all things fitness. I have tried spinning, yoga, Pilates, insanity and with a little hesitation cross fit. I have replaced constant fast food with home cooked meals and new recipes. I hope to continue to discover and love new things and to inspire others to find their fitness love!
