Back in 2006, I wore a size 16 pants, I weighed 175lb (the biggest I had ever been), and my blood pressure was around 180/90.  I decided I had to do something so I decided to take my best friend (Bubby, my boxer mix) and start running.  I had never ran before in my life.  Honestly, I absolutely hated it when I started, but Bubby had so much fun.  I made it about 1 mile and was out of breath and had to walk.  Bubby stopped and turned around to make sure I was okay, then he started pulling me.  He was essentially my motivator to get me back home.  It took me about 45 min to go those 2 miles.  It was horrible.  The next day, I decided to go again since I knew Bubby really enjoyed running.  He had fun, it was a little better for me since I ran a little then walked a little.

Bubby and I really enjoyed all of our runs together, and I slowly started losing weight (that was also a great motivator for me!).  Over the course of about 2 years, I had done lots of research on weight loss, weight lifting, and healthy eating.  The first thing I did was stop drinking pop.  I figured out how many calories I should be eating in a day, and decided that I would rather eat the calories instead of drink them.  Water and Crystal Light became my new favorite drinks.  In 2 years, I had made it down to 140 lbs and wore a size 10 pants.  I was so excited, but knew I could do better.

I joined my gym, Fitworks, in 2008.  I started taking group classes like weight lifting classes, boot camp classes, spinning classes, etc.  I had my 2 free personal training sessions with the certified personal trainers and learned so much!  I started losing more weight, and gaining muscles in places I didn’t even know could look like that!

Since I started running in 2006, I have ran in several 5K events, I have ran 2 Turkey Trot races (5 milers), Cincinnati Mudathlon, Cincinnati Flying Pig Half Marathon, and many half marathons to come!  I ran the Turkey Trot in 2011 in 40 min.  I was so excited!

Looking back over the past 6 years, I realize how far I have come.  I now weigh 125 lbs, wear a size 5 pants, and my blood pressure is 98/42!  I started my blog to share what I have learned, and to help you realize that it is possible to be “the skinny girl”.  I am here to help you live a healthy lifestyle and enjoy a long, healthy life!  My blog is www.healthyrunnerwife.com
