I recently received a Jawbone UP band for my birthday and now after two weeks of using it every day I thought I’d share some insights.
So firstly, what is the UP band? Think of a Nike Fuel band that can also track food and sleep. The UP band is designed to be worn day and night (apparently it can get wet but I’ve yet to test this) and it quietly ticks away tracking your steps, you calories burned and the quality of your sleep. It can also be set to give you smart alarms in the mornings that wake you up at the right time in your sleep cycle. The whole thing syncs up with the UP app on your phone and is done through the headphone jack.
As you might be able to tell, I’m pretty into it. I love having the access to my data via my phone, and it’s pretty cool to see the patterns emerging. The smart alarms really work too, so much nicer than a shrill alarm every morning – just a gentle pulse against your wrist.
One of the best bits for me, is that your other apps such as Runkeeper and My Fitness Pal can be bolted into it, so that every time you work out or log some calories, the data on UP automatically updates.
All in all, I’m totally sold on this little piece of kit. It takes the whole monitoring thing to another level, it helps you make better choices and also allows you to see the benefit of those choices laid out in pretty coloured line graphs. Tell me what’s not to love?!
I hope this has been of help to anyone teetering on the edge of purchasing one of these little guys, I promise if you do, you won’t regret it!
