July Blog Challenge: Day 18

Day 18: What is the most embarrasing item of clothing you own?

Playing a little catchup here, (surprise surprise!), but I can’t share the most embarassing article of clothing I own. Not yet.

You see, a few weeks ago I found the PERFECT Christmas gift for a couple of my best girlfriends. Namely, this one, and this other one. So I got us all matching, ahem, outfits, and I’m saving them for Christmas. It’s burning a hole in my life to keep this amazing, once-in-a-lifetime find under wraps until then, but I’m committed to it.

So you’ll have to wait to see my most embarrassing outfit. And in the meantime, I’ll jump back to Day 15, because I’ve been feeling especially blessed in the good deeds department lately.

As you all know, Jamie and I are in the thick of building our sweat pink empire (mwahahhaa), and in the process of doing so, we’ve run up against a ton of questions that we don’t know how to answer. From legal matters to programming languages, we simply can’t know how to do everything—try as we might, there simply isn’t time to become experts on Ruby on Rails or corporate tax structures. We’re so fortunate to have a veritable army of friends and colleagues who have been unfailingly available, helpful, and kind enough to help us navigate those questions. And, along the way, they’ve challenged us to think about our work and our goals in new and different ways, forcing us out of comfort zones and encouraging us to question our assumptions.

It’s been an emotional roller coaster, at times, but mostly, it’s felt like a complete privilege to have such accomplished and willing advisers.

If you’re reading this, you know who you are.

Thank you.

Would you rather be rich or healthy?

I have to side with Virgil on this one: the greatest wealth is health.

And, since I have nothing of value to add there, I’ve decided to hop back in time to take on one of the days I missed.

Day 3: What is the last movie you saw in theaters?

I don’t make it to the movie theaters very often. So expensive. You have to find parking. And deal with teenagers making out. And get there early or get stuck in the front. And who knows who’s been wiping their boogers on the bottom of your chair.

Hi, my name is Alyse and I am an 80-year-old woman.

Anyway. Last week I went to see The Avengers, because I needed a break from all the crying and moping that followed putting my dog down last Friday. A mindless summer blockbuster was just the thing.

In terms of brain shutoff capabilities, The Avengers delivers in style. I could watch Scarlett Johansen kick ass all day, any day, and my Ally McBeal-era crush on Robert Downey Jr. isn’t just resurrected—it’s reached whole new heights of glory. The movie is completely accessible to persons not fluent in comic book culture, and for an action movie, it is surprisingly light on the gore.

It’s just the thing a girl craves when the ritual of looking for her pup in all the usual places, and finding nothing but cold, empty couch cushions and still, silent floors, gets to be too damn much.

It might be time for me to head back to the theaters, parking and teenagers be damned.
